This book was a complete labour of love. Anyone with more than
passing acquaintanceship with The Old Stile Press will know how
great is our debt to Robin and Heather Tanner - indeed it is certain
that we would never have had the energy to persevere with our
vision if it had not been for their encouragement and their unflagging
belief in us. The text of this book tells the story of this friendship
and we are happy to be able to share it with the many others for
whom the Tanners were important and, we hope, to pass on something
of their influence to those who were not lucky enough to know
them. The patterned paper designs, which led to the printed samples
tipped into this book, stem from an original request that Robin
should design one for the covers of A Country Alphabet - and from
an unusually hot spell of weather which confined him to his workroom
and led him finally to give us twenty designs!
